“wonderful lunch with clients”
Dined on 19 March 2012. Lovely and fresh restaurant in the heart of Yorkville. The decor was modern and inviting: shimmering wall tiles, white table cloths and comfortable chairs made it a great place to take a client for lunch.

We had a reasonably priced special. My salad caprese was delicious and the grilled tuna for the second course was perfectly done.

“amazing night at Sorrel”
Dined on 23 January 2012. We went to Sorrel last friday, 19th Jan 2012. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was so relaxing with the Jazz music and the blues singer. We ate and danced after dinner as well. Will definitely go back. The jazz band performed from 8-12 PM (with short breaks off course). Highly recommended

"pastas were al dente and sauces..."
Dined on 05/08/2011. Pastas were al dente and sauces were fresh tasting and well prepared. Fish was perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and attentive. We ate on the small patio and loved this place. Highly recommended.

“outstanding food in a restaurant you can easily miss”
Dined 18 December 2011. We've had two excellent lunches at this restaurant this year - one during Summerlicious and the other just recently for our annual Christmas lunch. Both times, the food was exceptionally good for the price. The prix fixe lunch at $20 offers outstanding value although service was slow and not terribly attentive. But I'm willing to put up with the service because the meal was delicious. I had melt in your mouth Arctic Char with a crispy skin served over red and golden beets. The first course, a salad, was unremarkable. Some of my colleague had the roast cornish hen wrapped in prosciuto - thumbs up all around. If you're walking down Yorkville, you can easily miss this restaurant which is below ground level with an unobtrusive entrance. You really have to look hard to find it - but well worth the trouble.

“a little gem on Yorkville Avenue”
Dined 24 November 2011. We were looking for something close with an interesting menu when we discovered Sorrel. It is down a few steps with a large sunny window in the front. We were seated in the sunshine and loved the opportunity to people-watch on Yorkville Ave.

The service was excellent. My husband and I shared the tomato/mozzarella salad. The buffalo mozzarella was home made, soft and creamy served on fresh, tasty tomatoes in balsamic vinaigrette with basil.

I enjoyed the tagliatelle with fresh, tender lobster, spring peas, and pancetta cream sauce. My mouth still waters thinking of the tender strands of pasta in the rich, creamy sauce. My husband loved the same tagliatelle with buffalo mozzarella and san marzana tomatoes. The wine list was rich with both French and Canadian wines. A great little spot for lunch!

“perfect sunny spot for a drink”
Dined 8 October 2011. My wife and I were wandering through Yorkville one recent October afternoon when we came across the sun-dappled patio of Sorrel. It seemed an ideal spot for a drink. We ordered just a glass of wine each from their list and sat back to watch the world pass by.

When a late-season fly found its way into my wine, the waiter replaced it without hesitation. No fuss, no muss - just really good customer service!

"food was OUTSTANDING and excellent"
Dined on 21/07/2011. Food was OUTSTANDING and excellent restaurant I would have to say one of Toronto's top restaurants and service was great however, when we wanted to pay the server told us he didnt have any change to give us so we had to scramble amongst our group to make change.

"best food of 7 summerlicious"
best food of 7 summerlicious restaurants we visited. portions right, presentation good and taste wonderful!

"sorrel is superb!"
Dined on 22/07/2011. Three friends and I had an wonderful 'Summerlicious' experience at Sorrel. Unlike some 'Summerlicious' experience I have had (i.e. stuck in the back corner, mediocre 'second class' rushed-out service,), we were welcomed had had a leisurely dinner, excellent food and wine. We were well-pleased and would come again.

"it's a great place for a date..."
Dined on 13/07/2011. It's a great place for a date or just with a friend. We had a little table outside on the sidewalk and it was fun and lovely. Very good service with a smile.

"this is my favourite restaurant..."
Dined on 15/07/2011. This is my favourite restaurant in Yorkville. I just keep coming back. The summerlicious 3-course prix fixe lunch menu they offer is just full of my favourite Sorrel dishes and the price is just right. Take a friend, you will enjoy.

"the Summerlicious menu was..."
Dined on 15/07/2011. The Summerlicious menu was excellent. Food was well-prepared, tasty and nicely presented. Everyone at the table concurred it was well-worth the $20. It was also nice that we were able to talk and hear each other.

"great prix fixe lunch. Service..."
Dined on 17/06/2011. Great Prix Fixe lunch. Service is very good and friendly. Nice atmosphere.

"went with a large group, and..."
Dined on 12/06/2011. Went with a large group, and everyone was impressed with the food. Plates for sharing were great especially fig+prosciutto+goat cheese and the calamari fritti. Arugala salad was nicely dressed. My scallops were nice and tender...the grilled artichoke on the side was a great addition! For dessert, the creme brulee stood out because it's not as sweet as others make it. Atmosphere was great as was our server.

"very cozy and romantic restaurant..."
Dined on 21/05/2011. Very cozy and romantic restaurant. Great service and food, you really can't go wrong here. Cute little patio for Yorkville people watching. A hidden yet affordable gem in the area.

"went for mother's day brunch..."
Dined on 08/05/2011. Went for mother's day brunch. Lovely decor. Very nice ambiance. Service was a little spotty when we had to get our own chair for the table. Salads were a little underdressed. Overall presentation and food taste good.

"absolutely fabulous!"
Dined on 30/04/2011. Wonderful service by the owner! It was a birthday event with 12 people (lots of space), perfect seating arrangement, lovely table flowers and very reasonable prices on delicious food. Lighting was not too dim, and the walls had a brilliant silver reflection to them. Small and intimate, and the owner took extremely good care of the crowd, providing courtesy birthday liqueurs to all and setting us up with VIP to a dance club for afterwards. Would definitely go back, in a large group or for a romantic evening.

"the food is a gourmet wonder..
Dined on 24/04/2011. The food is a gourmet wonder. The service is always superb and the plating is a creative. There is a great ariety on the menu. I have dined here for dinner, lunch and brunch. Every meal has been perfection. I can't wait to return.

national post...
I want to eat simply and above all cheaply. Where is the best prix fixe lunch in town is my urgent question. Then, as I struggle through the snow, I almost fall into Sorrel, a newish place buried in the Yorkville underground strip. Sorrel might be entitled stepson of Prego della Piazza, once the flagship of Michael Carlevale, one of the city’s boldest restaurant gamers, and for years, home from home to the film festival glitterati. Sadly, Carlevale lost the restaurant in 2008. New management took over until the place shuttered last year. Now, executive chef Faro Chiniforoush has brought his team to Sorrel. And look at this — a prix fixe lunch for $20!

toronto life...
Sorrel, a friendly and cheerful room a few steps below Yorkville Avenue, marries Italian and French cooking with competent service, to generally good effect. The seafood linguine tosses spicy stewed tomatoes, oil and wine with mussels, shrimp and scallops—it’s a light, comforting dish.

The calamari are crisp, nicely seasoned and served with a peppery rouille, though the accompanying arugula and fennel salad would be better with a little vinaigrette (as opposed to lemon juice and olive oil). The whole spigola is tasty, though way overcooked and in need of acid.

Specials one night included Chilean sea bass; it’s severely threatened most places, and a poster species for unsustainable fishing. The wine list offers something for every budget. Mains $17–$29.

tourist...."delicious food, great people watching"
We had a delicious dinner on the tiny street-side patio. The food and service were excellent. We noticed in the two days we vacationed in the area that this restaurant was never as busy as others on the street, but the food was as good or better. We recommend Sorrel!

"highly recommended"
We dined outside on the tiny patio and watched the world go by on a summer's evening and had a wonderful experience at Sorrel. Located in Yorkville, a very nice part of town and a great location to people watch....

Service was very good; friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We were both really impressed with our meals, the wine and our perfectly made Kir Royale! Not a cheap place to eat but for the area and the quality of both the food and service, it is definitely reasonable value for money. We'd go there again.

“great service, great location....”
Reviewed 13 February 2011

Really enjoyed an evening at Sorrel. The service was fantastic and its located in one of the nicest areas in Toronto. The food was well executed, nothing was a big 'wow' with our menu but everyone at our table really enjoyed our food. Pricing was reasonable for this part of town as well.

"food and service was fantastic..."
Food and service was fantastic. We both enjoyed it very much

"a gem of a restaurant in the neighbourhood...."
This is a gem of a restaurant in the neighbourhood. The brunches on sunday are absolutely fantastic and priced about the same as any place on Queen West would be, the only difference being that the food here is superior.

For example the Salad Nicoise is made with a fresh tuna steak grilled to perfection with a lovely salad and green beans garnished with plenty of olives and a lovely poached egg !!!

Even the marmalade they have here is fantastic. I hope too many people don't find out about this secret place coz it makes other establishments I have been to for brunch look total crap.

"classy yet unpretentious..."
Hands down one of the best new dining experiences in Yorkville. Classy yet unpretentious and by far some of the best food I have experienced in the area.

"prix fixe menu for lunch was amazing...."
I just love this place, I've been twice and can't wait to go back. Each time I've been there I've had the Prix Fixe menu for lunch and it was amazing. I must also add that the crème brûlée is fabulous. Good place for a business lunch.
